Time 18:34 pm

Men's Division I is due off in 15 minutes.

Yesterday there were only 2 bumps in this division so today's action is likely to centre on the crews that rose yesterday (Oriel and Keble) and those that fell (Catz and New), plus whether the sandwich boat (Worcester) can make any impression on Hertford. Oh, and of course if Pembroke can push Magdalen any closer than they managed yesterday, which was rather close.

Let's hope the marshals with radios are up to the commentary - they seem to be a bit of a shy bunch upstream of the race desk this evening.

So to recap the bumps we think have happened:

Somerville bpd Wadham, Osler bpd New, Merton bpd Keble, Balliol overbumped St Hilda's.

Now waiting for the umpires to return to confirm these.

Time 18:10 pm

The 3 bumps in men's Div II as reported earlier have been confirmed.

Add Comment Add Comment

Time 18:08 pm

Fairly quiet at the race desk at the moment. A large number of race committee - sporting this year's "in look" of light blue t-shirts - seem to have congealed into a mass just in front of the desk - photo just put up in the Gallery.

Add Comment Add Comment

Time 18:04 pm

Looking ahead to Women's Div I due off in 15 minutes time, the top four crews all rowed over yesterday so not much change is expected there.

Somerville bumped up to 5th and may fancy their chances of catching Wadham. Osler, who also bumped up yesterday are chasing New who went down so you'd have to think a bump was likely there. Magdalen (9), Hilda's (10) and Keble (11) all rowed over, but the presence of Merton (12) who bumped up from Div II yesterday and below them Balliol (13) who've just arrived from Div II today should shake things up a bit.

Add Comment Add Comment

Time 17:39 pm

5 minute gun for Men's Div II has just been fired. The senior umpire is just using the marshals to deal with the other river traffic...

Add Comment Add Comment

Time 17:38 pm

Back in Men's Div II, the other crew that moved up yesterday, from Div III, is St Peter's who'll be chasing Merton. Mansfield earlier rowed over at the top of Div III and will be starting as the sandwich boat.

Add Comment Add Comment

Time 17:36 pm

Women's Div II bumps have just been announced over the PA as reported here earlier - Lincoln never did catch Linacre.

Add Comment Add Comment

Time 17:34 pm

Meanwhile, at the top of the division, it is reassuring to see Wadham in their traditional role as "door keeper" to Men's Div I. While Worcester bumped up behind them yesterday I can't really see them making much of an impression on Wadham today so poor Buzz is going to have to make at least a couple more trips up the towpath hurling abuse at his Wadham crew.

Add Comment Add Comment

Time 17:32 pm

Right then, looking ahead to Men's Div II (due off in about 15 minutes) yesterday St Anne's achieved an overbump which puts them one ahead of St John's today. That's a bit unfortunate for St John's who would normally have been expected to be capable of bumping every other crew in this division ... except St Anne's (well, that's my opinion!).

A bunch of photos from W.Div II have just been put in the Gallery

Bumps look like being Balliol on Queen's, Oriel on St Catz, St John's on Worcester and Wolfson on BNC.

Lincoln were last heard of in hot pursuit of Linacre but apparently without a rudder. Not sure what happened at the finish line

Just a reminder to all coxes + crews that they need to clear the racing line as quickly as possible after a bump. Coxes should check behind them for crews following before bumping out, and clear away from racing crews as quickly as possible.

That seems to be the division over, although not much word as yet on the movement within the division.

This would mean that St Anne's II are the crew which could be allowed to claim a technical bump. No word from the powers-that-be on what's happening there as yet, however.

Add Comment Add Comment

Time 14:29 pm

Actually no, Magdalen III, the Sandwich boat, has just overbumped Pembroke IV outside the race desk, so St Anne's II probably bumped Linacre II earlier (and I just remembered that Queen's didn't start this one),

Add Comment Add Comment

Time 14:27 pm

Big gap behind SPC so perhaps Merton II bumped Pembroke II and Queen's II bumped Pembroke IV

Add Comment Add Comment

Time 14:26 pm

BNC II (no.5) now coming out of the gut so it looks like Trinity II bumped Jesus II. SPC II a length and a half behind BNC

St Benet's now coming out of the gut - and they've just been bumped by Hertford II

Add Comment Add Comment

Time 14:22 pm

Anyway, back to the Queen's thingy, if they don't turn up on their bungline then the crew behind (Linacre II) will still have to row the course and will then be allowed to claim a technical bump, assuming they are not bumped themselves.

Despite the carnage in the previous race, Mens Div VI gets underway on time, involving the colourful, shiny and rather disturbing Trinity III and Jesus Vikings.

Add Comment Add Comment

Time 12:51 pm

A shellshocked Hertford III make it to Longbridges, four appears to have taken a nasty blow to the back of the head, and bow also appears to be in some distress, can hardly blame them really. A very nasty crash.

Add Comment Add Comment

Time 12:41 pm

First klaxon of the day as Hertford W3 smash into the bank coming out of the gut. Bow catches a vicious crab and seven appears to lose her seat. As they try to move off again, they collide with the bank again, with another crab for bow.

As the other crews come through, with Hertford still at the exit to the gut, and concerns about bow, klaxons ring out across the course, although some crews appear not to know to hold it up.

Add Comment Add Comment

Time 12:27 pm

Hertfort Men's III apparently crashed before the gut into a "floating tree", losing their bow ball in the process. This mysterious occurence is one to watch out for throughout the day.

The days racing is underway, slightly cloudier than yesterday, and the race secretary has just had the joy of rowing over... evidently deciding against holding it up early on.
