Women's Div I again saw soem good action, with plenty of bumps.

Hilda's bumped Keble before Donny Birdge to return to Div I-althought the Keble cox might want to consider concedign earlier in future to avoid damage to him and his boat!
-Balliol bumped Magdalen before the bridge too
-Hertford got New in the gut with some blade on blade action
Osler got Wadham

Men's Div III finally resolved.

Bumps stand as LMH on Linacre

Univ II on Keble II

this is a pile of crap! obviously an incorrect decision! just check out these pictures of us (keble M2) racing AFTER the gut. no concession, not even a bump. the fact that a univ umpire was allowed to vote is controversial. but anyways, RACE DESK, YOU ARE A PILE OF CRAP! DO YOUR JOB, DONT FUCK UP PEOPLE's EFFORTS! http://www.strokeshot.co.uk/image.php?size=big&pid=91&day=5 http://www.strokeshot.co.uk/image.php?size=big&pid=92&day=5 i expect an apology.

Men's Div II

-Queen's on Trinity
-Brasenose on Lincoln
-Wolfson on Jesus

Add Comment Add Comment

Time 17:52 pm

Men's Div II has just seen some great racing in a really well matched division. Braasenose bumped 'the Lincoln' as they left the gut. Johns had soem great surge on surge action with St Anne's. Mansfield tootled happily along at the back of the division without troublign anyone. Bumps to follow soon.

Time 17:48 pm

Liz Nixon's fulminations proved to no avail and Men's Div 4 bumps stand.

Add Comment Add Comment

Time 17:44 pm

Women's Div 2 saw some good racing, with Hilda's rowing clean over at the head wiht little difficulty. Oriel bumped Queen's St catz were bumped by Johns, Univ bumped Worc, who promptly buried themselves in a tree halfway down greenbank [another theme for the day], and Wolfson bumped Hugh's.

As one could probably guess, Men's Div bumps are being appealed.

If there's one thign to take away from today, it really is to keep rowing unless 100% certain you've bumped...

Has anyone busted Anu for taking gratuitous shots of his lovely fiancee?

Time 16:48 pm

Somerville are very, very firmly embedded in the tree, bank. Photos are being uploaded as we speak! Bow pair have been launched to the bank, and it seemes highly unlikely RQ will be setting off the next division early!

Add Comment Add Comment

Time 16:43 pm

Somerville have just rowed into a tree on the exit to the gut...Giving Keble a clean rowpast
Univ, chasing Keble carieid on for another 10 strokes, and then stopped, presumably thinkign they had bumped-doh.

RQ's legendary efficiency is continuing apace, as we are actually starting Men's Div 3 early. Unheard of.

Pemb 2 on Wadh 2
'Mighty' Mansfield on jesus
Trinity on LMH
Anne's on CCC

Time 16:07 pm

Some good racing in Women's Div III, with Pemb II overlapping on Wadh II as they left the gut, and rowing side by side for much of green bank until pemb finally got contact for the bump. Mansfield bumped jesus early on.

As we approach the business end of the day the weather is improving markedly, and the water is still like the proverbial pond. Ominously the river has gone rather quiet, possibly due the immense anticipation for Women's Div III.

Incidentally, Hilda's WI are short of a  bankrider today, so do give Judy a buzz if you have prior experience  of well,  counting on a watch...

Men's Div 4 bumps, currently being appealed,
bumps initially were Exeter II on Catz II
Anthonys on Wadh II
Hertford II on Lincoln II [overbump]
Queen's II on Balliol II

Wadh contesting the bump, sounds like it was all pretty messy, and wadham were actually on the verge of bumping themselves.

Silliest [but possibly most fun] giveaway of the day seems to be Accenture's giant orange inflatable hammers saying 'bump'. Answer on a postcard as to what one would do with it, or what it has to do with consulting, but top marks nonetheless!

Time 15:36 pm

Men's Div 4 seeing a pretty wide rnage of boat speeds.

Oriel were closed to about half a length by SEH as they left the gut, but pulled away again down green bank.
Likewise Osler closed Johns to half a length as they left the gut, but were soon left standing as Johns, who were far and away the most technically proficient crew of the division let their technique show.

I've seen more bumps races than I'd entirely own up to [as a combination of participant, coach and OURCs], and it never fails to amaze me when Colleges rack up big fines for late umpires, marshals or incorrect circulation. It isn't big, it isn't clever, and it is expensive.

Save yourself some money, save the race organisation stress, and turn up on time, row the correct way around the river, and then count all the pennies left for new shoes [rather than those river dredge infected ones you've loathed all term!].

Time 14:42 pm

Men's Div 5, some good clean bumping action on the slightly soggy Isis.

Trinity II on Benet's half way down green bank.
Merton II on Peter's II 'nice clean bump'
Magd III on Pemb III, near dangerous, according to the umpires-tut tut
Anne's II on Queen's III after a mere 30 strokes
and the Vikings decided to accept their mighty feat, and accepted the technical bump on the non-existent Linacre, and join the 5th division for tomorrow.

Add Comment Add Comment

Time 14:31 pm

As the rain begins to come down, Men's Div V charge across the finish line. Meanwhile 'the Lincoln' are berated for late umpires, the head marshal goes MIA, and the matters descend into frantic [but organised] chaos.

Silliest kit of the day award so far goes the uni-glo kit sported in Men's Div VI earlier today.

The Frehsfields drinks tent is seeing soem action [and probably even more once the rain begins...Pimms in the downpour-can't beat the authentic Summer VIII's feel!

Add Comment Add Comment

Time 14:20 pm

The five minute gone has gone, river checks are being conducted [always a highlight of every aspiring marshal's career], and Men's Div V are all attached. Although a barge driver has different ideas about who shoudl be using the river today...

We understand Linacre MII [bungline 12] aren't starting due to illness in the crew, meaning the Vikings should receive a technical bumps as soon as they start, and join the lofty ranks of Men's Div V. A decent day's work from the chaps [although they could of course decline the bump, depending how sporting they feel...

Comment thomas.baker@jesus - 14:23 pm

chaps and chapesses of the vikings if you don't mind... who also seem to be using the 1st VIII boat rather cheekily

Time 14:14 pm

Women's Div V- quote 'nothing interesting happened'.

Still, the allegedly boring bumps were Balliol II on St Anne's II, Univ II on CCC II, and St Hugh's II on Wadh II.

You'll also all be thrilled to hear that the rogue swimmer [with dog in tow], have toddled off into the city now, and the clouds are closing in, and looking ominously dark...

Yep-stand corrected-trying to type out the results quickly can mean the odd numeral goes missing!

Comment m.thornton@wadham.oxon - 14:17 pm

That'll actually be St Hughs II on Wadh III in women's div 5 - the second time that bump has occurred so far this eights

Time 13:50 pm

The eagle eyed amongst you will have noticed that was Men's Div VI not V before...

ChChIII the big losers of the division, dropping 4 places. Jesus III [Vikings become sandwich boat, having gone to the top of the diviosn. Congrats to everyone's favourite Nordic representatives.

Time 13:46 pm

And the appeal for Men's Div V is withdrawn... So bumps were:
Regent's on Wadh III
Jesus III on Pemb IV
Pemb V on ChCh III
Univ III on St John's III
Queen's on CCC II

Still not making any sense as I can't see how you can be sandwich boat from 3rd.... But never mind, I shall go to bed and leave you to get on with running the rest of the day :) Good job with the blog and text messages - v pleased to be kept posted but still wish I was there!

Comment richard.stock@sport - 13:59 pm

Lots of bumping and and they ended up as sandwich boat.

Comment sarah.berman@queens.oxon - 13:54 pm

How was there a Queen's crew in men's div 6? M4 started 3rd in Div 7 and all the other crews are in higher divisions (according to the start order)... I'm confuuuused!

Time 13:40 pm

Freshfield's drinks tent down in the gut today. Grab a drink, learn about being a corporate lawyer, and support/laugh at the action...

Time 13:36 pm

So, Men's Div 6. Provisional bumps are announced....and immeadiately appealed. After a divison which featured the classic 'why have they stopped...din't they concede...no, yes....etc' this is hardly a huge surprise.

Some bright spark is also swimming again. Anyone who has ever capsized in the Isis can tell you that really isn't the way to go...time to call the environment agency I'd say!

Time 13:08 pm

Having persuaded a swimmer to get out of the water at the finish it looks like we'll soon be clear to set of the next division.

Add Comment Add Comment

Time 12:44 pm

A large number of bumps in this division lead to just three boats racing out of the gut- Mansfield II going for the 8 overbump on Exeter II at the head of the division ... though the 20 boat lengths they needed to make up proved too much!
