I see your regular correspondent (Alex) has gone missing but I've just uploaded photos from W.Div II to the gallery and saw Oriel bumping Keble, St John's bumping Queen's (and then ending up in the trees), Wolfson bumping Lincoln and, over the radio we heard that Exeter bumped Worcester.

Big up LMH... you rock! ...and the Cox is cute!!

Time 15:54 pm

Photos from the gut from Men's Div III just put up in the gallery (some pretty nifty coxing from all the crews that managed to get around the mess)

Add Comment Add Comment

Time 15:50 pm

Great racing in Men's Div 3, with Pemb II pushing Mansfield hard on green bank, and LMH very tight on Pembroke.

Linacre you would have assumed had plenty of practice at clearign the line after their week's racing, but were bumped for spoons and then floated in the middle of the river outside Longbridges, getting i the way of crews coming past.

New bumped halfway down gren bank.

Men's Div III often sees powerful if unpolished rowing, and that's what we can expect today. No-one on for blades, and Linacre will be looking to avoid spoons.

Add Comment Add Comment

Comment christopher.leader@some - 11:02 am

'powerful if unpolished' with the exception of Somerville who got their starts complimented by RQ!

Time 15:14 pm

We'll blog bumps for women's div 3 when announced in 5 or 10 mins. looking ahead to the top of the river today, Magdalen, Pembroke and Balliol will all be looking for big performances at the top of the men's divisions. Magdalen have been under pressure every day, but Balliol have also been closing [albeit only slightly] on Pembroke. meanwhile at the top of the Women's divisions, SEH will be looking to continue their strong performance we've seen thus far this week, and prove that bringing in talent is  no substitute for developing it yourself. [A bit of a Man U/Chelsea premiership style situation in this one].

Given some of the names in the SEH boat, I'm not sure that's such a valid comment... I'm not trying to criticise SEH in any way (and big congrats on retaining the headship), I'm just making the point that there's more than one crew/college out there which isn't 100% 'home-grown talent'.

An update o the earlier ambulance on boat house island-it was to deal with the aftermath of a punch up in the Merton boathouse. No word on whether it was disgruntled competitors or bystanders, but some drama for the saturday of VIII's.

The tie will also be fast approaching for 'the syndicate' from SEH to do their legendary dance.

On the music front, this year Oxford students are demonstrating eclectic taste in their selections, with a mix of hip hop nd Top gear

After a number of blades winning crews, there are photos being taken up and down the banks. No sing reported of the St Peter's squirrel which normally enlivens proceedings, and sadly Anu has gone MIA, which is why the gallery hasn't been rereshed the last couple of divisions. No-one has wrapped themselves around a tree yet today, and no appeals has meant a smooth day orgnisationally thus far, barring a medical emergency on the Boat House island.

Women's Div V beginning in 8 minutes or so, once a log jam of steamers make their way down the course. The coming division is notable for Univ II and St Hugh's II going for blades, and the presence of 'Facebook celebrity' Hannah Smith-Willis strokign the New III crew who are sandwich boat. If you haven't experienced the phenomenon-just Facebook her, and you'll soon see!

Corpus II will be doign their best to avoid spoons, whilst Anne's II will be aiming to exceed their 3 days of rowing over so far.

For anyone reading from further afield, who won't be making it down, make sure you chekc out Anu's great photos uploaded at the end of every divsion. The weather is classic Oxford, with a hazy sunsine, slightly humid feel, and the promise of a long, long enjoyable day.

Today's racing promises some great stuff, as this year's event has seen unusually well matched crews in most divisions, with relatively few boats storming up or down the bumps charts, giving nice tight racing for spectators.

Add Comment Add Comment

Time 12:30 pm

Interesting outfits of the day so far- a re-run of the uni-glo co-ordination in Men's Div 6, dunce's hats in women's Div 6, and the standard assortment of nasty cloured T-shirts. No sing of the orange inflatable bumps hammers, but wiht the Pimms already beign consumed on the banks, it can only be a mater of time.

The river is getting busier as spectators arrive for the day, and the buzz is rising. Plenty of people around asking for programmes on the Longbridges side, but no sign of any Oriel people selling them-life's all about taking a rpodcut to your market, not relying on them to walk 25mins to fidn you guys!

Add Comment Add Comment

Time 11:40 am

A big gap behind St John's so Brasenose II probably bumped Hertford IV,

and Mansfield II bpd Exeter III. Trinity II, the bottom crew, are just rowing past the race desk. Not much to chase so they might as well just enjoy the paddle ..
