St Johnís College Boat Club (Oxford) is looking to appoint a new Head Coach as soon as possible for the 2017-2018 year to start 1st October. The coach would be responsible for training the menís and womenís first boats, and would get involved occasionally in coaching lower boats, especially during pre-term training camps.

SJCBC is one of the largest college boat clubs in Oxford with over 60 active members and excellent training facilities and equipment. Both our menís and womenís first boats are in the top division in Torpids (with W1 well positioned to achieve Headship within 2 years); while in Summer Eights the women remain in the top division and the men in the top half of the second having won blades in 2017. With many rowers from the 2016-2017 squad returning, we are looking for a talented, dedicated and experienced coach to help us build on our recent successes to keep the momentum going forward and to reach our objectives for the year. These include qualifying for the Henley Boat Races and performing well in a number of external regattas, in particular WeHoRR/HoRR and HWR/HRR qualifying. We are able to offer a competitive salary.

During term time the position would involve 4-5 water sessions in Abingdon on weekday mornings and all Saturday and Sunday afternoons (although input into the existing training programme is both welcome and appreciated), and attendance to at least 4 evening land training sessions each week (over 3-4 evenings). The coach will be expected to attend 2-3 pre-term training camps in and away from Oxford in January and April respectively, as well as external regattas. He/she will need to be able to drive a launch.

Please send a CV and a cover letter to the Boat Club captains lewis.oshaughnessy@sjc.ox.ac.uk and karen.heathcote@sjc.ox.ac.uk. Although we would prefer a single coach for both our menís and womenís crews, we also welcome applications from people who could only commit to coach one side of the boat club.

Please note: This role will not attract sufficient points to obtain a sponsored tier 2 visa under the points based immigration system, nor will it be possible for the College to obtain a tier 5 temporary worker visa (creative and sporting) on behalf of an individual. However, applications are welcome from candidates who do not currently have the right to work in the UK but would be eligible to obtain a visa via another route.
