Wednesday morning

| To the crews who were out before 8.30am this morning on the Isis (you know who you are), why? Visibility was way less then 100m, standing at the Jesus boathouse i couldn\'t even make out the big tree next to Univ boathouse which is less than 100m away, and surely everyone knows by now that if its bad at the boathouse island, then it will be worse down the green bank and into the gut, where it isn\'t built up at all. If anything, it got worse after i arrived just before 8am(the St Johns boatman agrees, and said he wasn't going to go out in his scull)! Also, none of the crews that did boat had lights, and one crew didn\'t even have a bankrider!! Coxes, remember that you have the ultimate say in whether an outing goes ahead, if you aren\'t happy, don\'t go out, stick the rowers on the erg or come back later! Even if your coach says they think its fine, tell them otherwise. If you are X-status then you are responsible for the safety of your rowers, if you are a coach of a N-status cox, then you are responsible, don\'t make silly decisions for the sake of 1 outing in 0th week! Well done to St-Annes who took the sensible decision to take their boat off the water! | |

| Further to that, some issues from Wednesday evening: Can we have a bit of common sense in the Gut please? This includes not storming past other crews who have slowed in the Gut mouth (unless you KNOW they're stopped/pulled over), not overtaking and not ploughing through fleets of small boats with children in them. On the small boats theme, it's worth noting that with tourist season headed rapidly towards us, the river is going to get quite crowded, especially on nice evenings. This means punts, little wooden row boats, the gonodliers, canoeists, pedaloes, river cruisers large and small and Salters' Steamers. Be aware, and BE COURTEOUS to all river users, large or small. It's everyone's river. | |
