Overtaking in the gut

| Can I just remind everyone that it is unexceptable to overtake in the gut. It does not matter what crew you are (Balliol mens first VIII) and how good you think you are. You should always respect other colleges and the saftey rules! It was very very dangerous and STUPID to overtake us doing a piece upstream. (let alone that another crew came past us downstream plus several kayaks). We had to do an emergency break to not hit kayaks cos Balliol pushed us too far out! Also it didnt make it better that stroke and 7 were grinning at us when we reminded them that you should not overtake in the gut. (If you wear blues lycra behave like one and respect everyone else! You should know better). Rant over! Please put safety first! Katja | |

| Unacceptable, that is, except when Rule R8.4.c applies - see earlier rant on the same subject from the Captain of Coxes. | |

| I would just like to point out that there were a lot of children in those kayacks in the small 'dip' in the middle of the bank in the gut ,and by trying to overtake us there you were forcing us dangerously close to hitting them during our piece. To hear a coach ENCOURAGE his crew to do this to us, and then deny to our coach that he has any control over his crew, just makes the situation worse. Please play fair - we have to make the most of the conditions we have on the Isis. | |

| That would be the same crew that don't know where to spin at Haystacks and whose coach denies any knowledge of the rules..... | |

| The Balliol coach has sent me an email stating that his shouting was to tell his crew to continue on through and out of the gut to clear the congestion caused, and was not to encourage them through the gut and into our boat. | |
