| first of all a huge appology. We were on the isis as we were transporting our boat back thru the locks from radley and i thought that that meant we were ok to be on the water just to row it in despite restrictions. I realise now thats not the case but i honestly didnt know and it wasnt meant to be unsporting at all. the only thing to add is that we went straight from the lock to the head and span to come in at our boat house so were on for as short a lap as we could have done. We did do a piece but the fact the isi was clear didnt factor, it was really just to get off the water as quick as pos as we had been at Radley all morning and then rowed the boat back and just wanted to come in. As i said we are really sorry and didnt do it out of trying to get one up on anyone. It all stemmed from me personally getting it wrong and thinking we were ok to transport the boat back. A big appology all round! Best Arthur Downing | |

| I fail to see how you can interpret the rules so that your lower crews are not allowed to have outings until 1pm but that you are allowed to transport a boat about any time you like. And if you really thought that you could try to discretely transport, then perhaps you should have been creeping slowly up the side of the river and not disturbing the water for the club small boats that take advantage of Sunday morning being college free. You must have been delighted to find a nice empty Isis to practise race pace. | |

| I appreciate that you are angry but it really wasn't done out of a malice as i tried to expalin to you this morning or as a conscious stratergy to get one up over people. We really just wanted to get in, and because i thiought (wrongly i know) that we were ok to row back in as we were transporting i didn't think it mattered what pace we went, and having been out for ages that morning we just wanted to get in quick, one of our guys was in a huge rush also. As far as the decision making went me and the coach just assumed the restrictions were off... i thought that the restriction on no of crews out not applying to people transporting was just a blanket thing where restrictions... apart from flags and going out when its dark... didnt apply if you were transporting. We took the most direct route in and never had any intention of doing any more than that. I'm really sorry guys and i just want to stress this was ignorance on my part not malice on the part of the crew! After Mrs Platts explained to us we had broken the rules i went straight home and emailed the captain of coxes to tell him. Arthur downing | |

| "restriction on no of crews out not applying to people transporting" When did this become the case? | |

| I guess one of the two St John's VIIIs on the water at the same time this afternoon must just have got a bit lost while "transporting", then. | |

| As must the Balliol VIII (or more appropriately perhaps, the Balliol VII) spinning at Longbridges this afternoon without a full compliment... | |

| Sorry about the two St John's VIIIs out this afternoon. Our W3 didn't row on and a miscommunication led both myself and the women's captain to believe that no other boat would be using their outing slot today. Apologies. | |
