Coxes take note, this (above, boat nearest the camera) is not where to spin at Haystacks. The four in the foreground has gone way past the Haystacks post, instead of calling 'easy' beside it as they should have done. The other crew, just visible in the background, is in the right place.

As we have said earlier and directly to captains already, lack of knowledge of the rules by coaches is no excuse for breaking them. Coaches, however new, MUST be briefed properly by colleges on where their crews should be and what not to do. We brief all coxes, so if you are using someone who hasn't been registered, put them in touch with myself or Tom Baker (Captain of Coxes) at once, please.

RQ.

And here's another (above) - both these crews are rowing upstream through the Gut.

Rule R7.5d - Crews may not overtake in the Gut.

Had a crew been coming downstream on the towpath side, perhaps having moved round spinning crews at Longbridges, they would have been at best completely blocked, and at worst, dangerously impeded by the crew on the left.

just don't do it.

Thanks,

RQ.

(Sorry about the fuzziness and distance, that was taken by-bike, cycling).

.......or like exeter's men's VIII this morning: paddle past the isis boathouse smiling, then stop in front of the isis tavern for some tapping exercises.

Or at Longbridges not bother to queue into the bay but spin out of turn above the landing stages and move off right into the path of a downstream boat.

Pembroke IV+ around 6.40am, and then again pembroke VIII+ around 8 am.

both times they paddle past isis boathouse, and then stop for a nice coaching session, of course it is convenient to stop outside the isis tavern since no other boats are allowed up there!!!??

same coach, twice in one day.

not sure if he doesnt know the rules (that were kindly pointed out to him by several academicals) or just chose not to follow them.

6. Spinning

1. Under green flag boats may only spin at the following places from
iii below the red and white post on Haystacks Corner. A spinning crew must not keep paddling once downstream of this post, and must stay upstream of the white Isis Boathouse post as they spin. Crews must not use the stretch between the white post and Iffley Lock to be coached. Crews racked at the Isis Boathouse may use the area just below the white post to boat or land only but are recommended under blue or amber flag to spin above the post and drift or back down to land.
