HBR collegiate race
 | 10th Mar 2010 | | Rachel Quarrell <quarrell@herald> |
As mentioned at the captains' meeting and on the webforum
(http://www.ourcs.org.uk/forums/G/14044) there is space for a collegiate
OU/CU race (actually one each for men and women) at this year's Henley
Boat Races.
The captains' meeting decided that the headship crews would be offered the
spots first, then if they declined, other crews (expected to be first
eights) could nominate themselves and the three HBR OU presidents would
choose which ones would race.
ChCh men and Magd women have declined and so the field is open. First
eights who wish to be considered should email OULRC president Jow
Sadowski on josef.sadowski@hertford.ox.ac.uk with which crew and why they
think they should be chosen. Make as good a case as you can and include
mention of any substitutions you are likely to make from your original
Torpids line-up.
PLEASE APPLY BEFORE THE END OF THURSDAY 11th MARCH AS THE DECISION MUST BE
MADE ON FRIDAY.
Crews nominating themselves please note that everyone in the crew must
have been eligible for the college's first eight in this year's Torpids
(ie you can't import lots of ex-students or associates) though they can
have rowed for a lower boat if need be. [We hadn't discussed coxing, but
it's pretty obvious that coxes should also be eligible for the first
Torpid under normal circumstances, ie no ringers. Coxes can be any
status.]
If a crew applies, is given the place, and then pulls out, their Cambridge
rival college will win by default, so please consider nominations as a
serious entry. (An Oxford college could likewise win by default if a
Cambridge college confirmed and then withdrew, but if no college on one
side applies for a race then it just doesn't happen.)
