Secretary- Ben Thurston (Trinity)

Position:
The OURCs Secretary heads up the OURCs Committee and takes overall responsibility for OURCs operations and events, aided by the committee.

Personal:
Ben is a 1st year Clinical Medic at Trinity. His undergraduate years were also spent at Trinity, where he was Men's Captain in 2007/8 and President 2008/9. Fitness/skill permitting he will hopefully continue to row for the Trinity 1st VIII and coach wherever possible.

 

Treasurer- David Pallot (Christ Church)

Position:
The Treasurer is in charge of the finances of OURCs and is in charge of the fine system. Fine appeals should be directed to the treasurer.

Personal:
David joined OURCs in TT05 when he was deputy treasurer for Eights. He has served as an Ordinary Member and Internet Secretary and was the Secretary in 2007-08.

 

Captain of Coxes- Tom Baker (Jesus)

Position:
The Captain of Coxes is in charge of all things coxing within the University. They should be contacted with regards to coxing upgrades. Rachel Quarrell works closely with the Captain of Coxes and can be reached via email at quarrell@nexus.ox. etc.

Personal:
'Tom is a 4th year biochemist, who started coxing in his first term at Oxford. He coxed Jesus M1 for 2 years and also coxes with Lea RC back home in vacations.

 

Sabbatical Officer- Laurence McGivern

Position:
The Rowing Sabbatical Officer (RowSab) provides administrative support for all members of OURCs, and acts as safety adviser for college and university rowing. The RowSab post is usually taken by a recent student. Applications will be invited in February-March and shortlisted by an interview with COUR members in April, before being voted on at a captains' meeting early in Trinity term.

Personal:


Laurence read PPE at Mansfield from 2006 to 2009. He started rowing here, and became his club captain in 2007. He also spent several terms on the OURCs committee.

 

President- Sonia Bracegirdle (Merton)

Position:
The President is either the President of OUBC or OUWBC, working on alternate years. They act as the Chair at Captains' Meetings.

Personal:
Sonia was born and bred in New Zealand. She did her undergrad degree at Cambridge in Natural Sciences, and learnt to row with her college there. Sonia was in the winning tab blue boat in 2007... but now she's at Merton, doing a DPhil in Organic Chemistry, and was in the 2009 winning blue boat.

 

Internet Secretary- Tony Harris (Regent's Park)

Position:
The internet secretary is resposible for the OURCs IT infrastructure. This includes operation of the website, entries system, mailing lists and general IT support for the committee on racedays. A knowledge of HTML, PHP and MYSQL programming and general IT literacy is desirable for this position.

Personal:
Tony is a third year mature student at Regent's Park where he is reading English. In his past life he was an IT professional and entrepreneur. He rowed for Regent's M8 in Torpids 2008 and trained with them for ChristChurch 2007. Tony also coaches rowing within Oxford.

 

Senior Member- Dr. Paul Azzopardi (Worcester)

Position:
The Senior Member represents OURCs on university committees, and is a member of Congregation.

Personal:
Dr Paul Azzopardi is a fellow of Worcester College and Director of Undergraduate Studies for Psychology.
