Racking at Abingdon

College Racking available at Abingdon Rowing Club

Do you want to avoid the congestion of the Isis and exploit one of the best stretches of water on the River Thames, only 8 miles from Oxford?. The Thames at Abingdon is an attractive and very functional training area for rowing with a distance from lock-to-lock of some 3,800m that remains relatively free of river traffic even during the summer months. Abingdon is a very short journey from Oxford - busses every 15 minutes from city centre (journey time approx 15 min), or an approx. 40 min bike ride for some extra cardio.

We have a productive relationship with several of the most successful Oxford Colleges, including Oriel College, Baliol College, St Edmund Hall and Lady Margaret Hall. We aim to work together with our partners to mutual benefit, and we believe that this is achieved: most of our partners return year after year.

We can rack a maximum of eight eights at a time at ARC. This is because we value our own space, and also want to provide a good quality environment for clubs using our facilities.

All we ask is that colleges racking at ARC follow the rules set out in their contract. These include rules relating to noise and nuisance to club members, to our residential neighbours, and to other river users.

Our rates are very competitive at £450 per rack per term, or £1200 for the academic year.

If you are interested in racking at ARC contact Matt Robinson on membership@abingdonrc.org.uk or 07702 063046. Racking will be assigned on a first come, first serve basis.

Linacre in need for racking space for 8+, 2 weeks on the Isis

Dear all,

Linacre are in need of a space to rack their Stelph 8+ (incidentally, up for sale at £3,500) for about 2 weeks, asap. We are about to store a new 8_ that we have purchased and are running out of space in our boathouse, until the Stelph is sold.
Of course, if need be, we will be willing to pay for this!

I would appreciate if any college with racking space in the Isis, wrote to me.

best

RE: Temporary Isis Racking Problem

Just to say that, miraculously, the company responsible has managed to procure the required part much sooner than they anticipated and have been down to fix the shutter today, solving my problem. Nevertheless, I would just like to say a public thankyou to Univ, Pembroke, Ben Thurston and Corc who all offered to help in some way shape or form and for which I am very, very grateful. Id also like to say thankyou to St. Hughs and St. Annes for having put up with our VIII (that was on the water at the time of the malfunction) being on the floor of their boat bay for the last few days.

Thankyou! And good luck to all on Sunday!

Temporary Isis Racking Problem

Hi,

I am the mens captain at Wadham and we have encountered a small issue for IWL this weekend in that our boat house bay door has stopped functioning i.e. it will not open or close. This presents a massive problem in that I have nowhere to put the two VIIIs I was bringing down from Godstow for IWL this weekend.

Basically, is there anyone who has space (either on a rack in their boathouse or on the floor in slings) in their boathouse where we could store one of our VIIIs - looking to move down on Saturday/whenever is convenient and move out on Monday morning/whenever is convenient. Or does anyone have any better suggestions? I am very reluctant just to leave our boats on slings outside in the meadows.

Any help/advice would be very gratefully received and I would do my utmost to come up with some sort of appropriate thanks for anyone who could help - cake/crew dates/marshalling/bank riding/reciprocal favours etc etc - as eternal gratitude, although edifying, probably doesnt quite do it.

Thanks! Paul
